Skoda Motorsport Finland driver Teemu Asunmaa and co-driver Ville Mannisenmäki have won the fifth round of Finnish Rally Championship, SM Pohjanmaa Ralli. By winning the two-day event, Asunmaa continued where he left off in the previous round of the championship. Despite not contesting the opening round of the championship, Asunmaa elevated himself up to second in the driver’s standings.
The event was the second home event for the Finn, as he set out for success. The opening day was successful, and the Pirelli driver won all three stages of the day. On the second day of the rally Asunmaa continued on the impressive performance by winning four out of six stages of the day.
-We set out for a clean and relaxed rally this time. The heavy rainfall on the first stage of the last leg was a bit of a surprise, and we drove the last two stages smartly. Maybe we should have driven a bit faster, but the main thing is that we got to the finish. Overall a successful weekend, Asunmaa summed up the Saturday afternoon’s events.
By winning the SM1 category, Asunmaa took home a good tally of points in the team’s championship as well for the entrant, RTE-Motorsport. After the fifth round of FRC has been concluded, the sights have now been set for ERC Estonia and Secto Rally Finland.
-First we’ll celebrate Midsummer and maintain the car in preparation for ERC Estonia and Secto Rally Finland. The Estonian event is only three weeks away, and the level of competition is going to be immense. A bit thanks for this event for Ville, our cooperation partners, our mechanics, and all those supporting us on the stages and at home, Asunmaa said.
European Rally Championship continues with Delfi Rally Estonia on 5th to 7th of July. The Finnish Rally Championship continues with Future SM Ralli in Lahti in 23th to 24th of July.
